Osteopathy and your baby (Paediatric care)

How might an Osteopath help your baby?

Your little one will go through many changes in the first couple of years of life from time in utero to their first steps. As they blossom, infants grow at a rapid rate and this can often contribute to issues associated with bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves which may affect their ability to achieve their milestones including rolling, crawling and walking. Other influences on your baby can come from birth trauma during pregnancy or delivery, accidents and other injuries. As an Osteopath, we will take a comprehensive history starting from your pregnancy journey right through to the time you are presenting with your infant followed by a physical examination to ascertain what could be interfering in your baby's development.

Osteopaths offer safe and gentle hands on treatment techniques to assist with these barriers. Not only can we provide hands-on care, we will also discuss strategies around nutrition, exercise, positioning, general health and education to support families.

Other issues often faced by growing bubs include:

  • Neck tension

  • Flat spots

  • Reflux

  • Tongue ties

  • Feeding issues

  • Colic

  • Irritability

  • Constipation

  • Sleep issues

  • Rolling, crawling, sitting, standing, walking
